ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Five

Offensive Player of the Week
Johannes Hanken Tjostheim, Mercy (Sophomore, Forward - Aalesund, Norway)
Hanken Tjostheim recorded a hat trick (38', 45', 56') in Mercy's 6-2 win over Roberts Wesleyan. Hanken Tjostheim now has six goals on the season, which ties for third in the ECC. 

Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Julian Holland, Mercy (Junior, Back - Tokyo, Japan)
Holland scored a career-high two goals, including the match-winning goal, in Mercy's 6-2 win at Roberts Wesleyan and anchored a defensive unit that allowed just one shot on goal in 90 minutes in the Mavericks' 0-0 draw vs. Staten Island.

Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Calle Olle Petter Gunnarsson, St. Thomas Aquinas (Freshman, Goalkeeper - Stockholm, Sweden)
Gunnarsson allowed just one goal over 160 minutes of action in two wins last week. The freshman netminder went 9-for-10 in saves with eight saves in a 2-1 win over District of Columbia and two saves in a 5-0 win over D'Youville for a 0.56 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.

Rookie of the Week
Tommy Gunn, Queens (Freshman, Forward - Buenos Aires, Argentina)
In the Knights 2-0 week, Gunn recorded four points on two goals, including a match-winner. Gunn scored a goal in Queens' 10-0 win over Dominican and went on to tally his second career match-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Staten Island.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Chol Chol, Queens (Sophomore, Forward - Atlanta, Ga.)
Chol recorded the Knights' first hat trick of the season in Queens' 10-0 win over Dominican. Coming off the bench in the first half, Chol scored in the 35th, 47th, and and 62nd minutes of play. 

Harry Cooke, Queens (Sophomore, Forward - Market Drayton, England)
In the Knights 2-0 week, Cooke recorded five points on two goals and one assist. The sophomore began the week with his second brace of the year against Dominican before recording his team-leading 12th point on an assist on the Knights' opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Staten Island. 

Axel Gamez, District of Columbia (Freshman, Midfielder - Rockville, Md.)
Gamez tallied six points on the week, scoring three goals over two matches. In UDC's 2-1 loss to STAC, Gamez scored the initial equalizer off of a penalty shot. In UDC's 4-0 win over Daemen, Gamez scored two goals to lead the Firebirds to their first conference victory of the season. 

Jose Mendez, Queens (Redshirt-Sophomore, Defender - Queens, N.Y.)
Mendez guided the Knights to a 2-0 week as Queens defeated Dominican and CSI. In the victory over Dominican, Mendez recorded three points on one goal and one assist; the Queens native would tally a 50-yard screamer in the first half for his second career goal and added his fourth assist of the season in the victory. Mendez helped Queens end the week on a high note with a 2-1 ECC victory over CSI as Mendez and the Knights defense would hold their opponents to a combined five shots on goal.

Amari Thompson, Staten Island (Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Thompson posted a clean sheet behind seven saves in a scoreless draw against Mercy and added another three saves in a 2-1 loss to Queens. Across two matches, Thompson posted an 83.3% save percentage to go along with the 10 saves and a shutout.
