ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Eight

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker finished in first place in both the mile (4:11.90) and 800m (1:51.05) at the GVSU Big Meet. Both times were ECC season-bests, while his time in the 800 hit an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark. 

Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week
Nishorn Pierre, Holy Family (So - Grenada)
Pierre broke own his own school record in the triple jump at the Fastrack National Invitational hosted at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday, marking at 14.85m to place second out of 31 with an NCAA provisional mark. He trailed only a competitor from Division I St. Francis Brooklyn with the fourth-longest jump in the league this season. Pierre also finished eighth out of 26, landing at 6.79m in the long jump.

Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week
Jan Volkmar, Georgian Court (So - Eschwege, Germany)
At the Fastrack National Invitational, Volkmar hit an NCAA qualifying mark in the pole vault jumping 4.95m which puts him 12th nationally in Division II and ties for first in the East Region.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Acacia Barber, Roberts Wesleyan (So - Frewsburg, N.Y.)
At the GVSU Big Meet, Barber set ECC season-best times in both the mile (5:06.58) and 3,000m (10:06.17). She finished 10th in both races.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Korryn Braxton-Young, Holy Family (Sr - Newark, Del.)
Braxton-Young marked eighth out of 61 in the shot put after her furthest toss traveled 11.81m at the Fasttrack National Invitational on Friday. She also broke her own school record in the weight throw, 12.82m, ranking in the top half of the 63 entries.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Kouto Anyika, Holy Family (Fr - Philadelphia, Pa.)
Anyika clocked the seventh fastest time in the 400m among 97 entries, 49.64, at the Fasttrack National Invitational on Friday.

Emmanuel Mena Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Mena Jimenez placed fifth in the weight throw at the Fastrack National Invitational with a toss of 17.34m and also took a 12th-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.84m (48'8.25").

Xavier Seals, Georgian Court (Jr - Woodstown, N.J.)
Seals was one of the top finishers from Division II in the 3,000 at the Fastrack National Invitational, setting a new personal best and moving to sixth in the event in the ECC.

Women
Nicole Gysin, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr - Waldwick, N.J.)
Gysin placed fourth in the 60 Meter Hurdles at the Fastrack National Invitational with a time of 9.95 and also took a 10th place finish in the High Jump with a leap of 1.45m.

Zoe Shaw, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Shaw placed third in the high jump at the DII Pre-Nationals Meet with a mark of 1.60m.

Dayna Thompson, Dist. Columbia (Fr - St. Mary, Jamaica)
Thompson placed seventh overall in the 200m running a season-best time of 24.96s.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen was idle last week and returns to action this Sunday when it takes part in the 2023 ECC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

District of Columbia: UDC competed in the Pre Nationals DII meet over the weekend. Next up they will head to Staten Island to compete in the ECC Championships.

Holy Family: Korryn Braxton-Young broke her own school record in the weight throw as the HFU got its final prep for next weekend's East Coast Conference Championship at the Fasttrack National Invitational hosted at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday. Braxton-Young also marked eighth out of 61 in the shot put after her furthest toss traveled 11.81m. Shania Le Maitre finished seventh out of 83 in 800m after crossing in 2:18.99, while Kenisha Greenwood clocked the 12th fastest time, a collegiate PR 58.78, out of 86 entries in the 400m to move into third in the ECC. Nishorn Pierre broke own his own school record in the triple jump as the HFU got its final prep for next weekend's East Coast Conference Championship at the Fasttrack National Invitational hosted at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday. Pierre broke his previous school record of 14.80m by .05m to mark second out of 31 with an NCAA provisional, trailing only a competitor from Division I St. Francis (N.Y.). Javon Bowen posted a top-five finish in the long jump after marking at 6.95m, with Pierre placing eighth out of 26 at 6.79m. All four Tigers to run the 400m crossed in the top-half of the field, highlighted by Kouto Anyika clocking the seventh fastest time, 49.64, among 97 entries

Molloy: The Lions competed at the Big Apple Classic. Molloy's performance was highlighted by senior Kristi Ackerina breaking the indoor record time for the mile with a time of 5:22.24. Molloy is preparing for the East Coast Conference Championship on Sunday (Feb. 26).

Queens: The Knights competed in the Fastback National Invitational on Friday afternoon in the final tuneup. Queens travels to Staten Island on Feb. 19 at the Ocean Breeze Complex as they compete in the East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts ran at the GVSU Big Meet and the NCCAA Championships over the weekend. The Redhawks will run at the ECC Championships on Sunday.

Staten Island: The Dolphins wrapped up the regular season with another meet at Ocean Breeze as they participated in the Fastrack National Invite. Aryanna Finkelstein matched a personal-best in the Shot Put for the Dolphins in their last meet before the conference championship.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Indoor Track & Field team competed at the Fastrack National Invitational last week. STAC will return to action on February 19 (4:00 p.m.) at the ECC Championships.
