ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Four

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Xavier Seals, Georgian Court (Jr - Woodstown, N.J.)
running his first race of the season, Seals finished second at the TCNJ Invitational in the 800m. He was the top Division II finisher in 1:55.12 which is a new indoor personal best and less than a half second off of his lifetime best. His time is also the best in the event in the ECC so far this season. 

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Nishorn Pierre, Holy Family (So - Grenada)
Clearing 2.18m in the high jump, Pierre broke his own Grenadian National Indoor Record, while also tying the Ocean Breeze College Facility Record. Setting an NCAA provisional, the sophomore topped the field of 23 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invitational with the second-highest clearance in Division II this season, as well as the seventh-highest in all of the NCAA. Pierre also marked a collegiate PR of 6.81m in the long jump to place third amongst 40 entries.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Dayna Thompson, Dist. Columbia (Fr - St. Mary's, Jamaica)
Thompson had the fastest DII time in the 400m at the HBCU Showcase with a time of 57.94. She placed third overall out of a field of 31. She then went on to run on the Firebirds 4x400M relay team that placed sixth out of a field of 13 with a time of 4:04.02. Her time in the 400m was the fastest in the ECC so far this season, while the relay time currently ranks second. 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Shanae Rayside, Georgian Court (Sr - Lakewood, N.J.)
Rayside finished 4th in the triple jump at the TCNJ Invitational with a mark of 11.70m which is an NCAA provisional qualifier and puts her 20th in the country. She was the top DII finisher in the competition. The mark is a new indoor personal best and three inches shy of a lifetime best.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Jeshurun Devero, Georgian Court (Sr - Manchester, N.J.)
Jumped 14.41m in the triple jump to finish second overall and first among collegiate competitors at the TCNJ Invitational. His best mark came on his final jump of the day. The mark is an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier.

Elizah Gordon, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - White Plains, N.Y.)
Gordon placed first in the 60 meter dash at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans Invitational, crossing the finish line in a time of 7.03. He was also a part of the Spartans 4x200 meter relay team that finished fourth with a time of 1:32.59.

Terrence Jones, Holy Family (Jr - East Orange, N.J.)
Jones ran a collegiate PR of 8.40 in the 60m hurdles to place second in the field of 22 with the second-fastest time in the ECC this season. The junior also set a new collegiate PR of 23.99 in the 200m.

Women
Ciara Durcan, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - Orangeburg, N.Y.)
Durcan took victory in the mile race walk event, crossing the finish line in a time of 7:23.39.

Kenisha Greenwood, Holy Family (Jr - Jamaica)
Greenwood was part of the quartet that won the 4x400m relay with the fastest time in the ECC this season, 4:01.26, while also posting two individual top-10 finishes in the 200m and 400m. The junior clocked the fourth-fastest time in the 400m, 1:00.30, amongst 38 entries, while placing ninth out of 53 with a time of 26.92 in the 200m.

Korryn Braxton-Young, Holy Family (Sr - Newark, Del.)
Braxton-Young marked at 12.07m in the shot put for the fifth-furthest toss amongst 39 entries at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans Invitational.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Daemen men's and women's indoor track & field teams return to action Saturday (Jan. 21) when they take part in the Highlander Invitational at the Kerr-Pegula Field House on the campus of Houghton University. It will mark their first action since taking part in the Nazareth Alumni Opener back on Dec. 9.

District of Columbia: UDC had a strong showing at the HBCU Showcase. Next up, they will head to Maryland next Saturday to compete in the Catholic Indoor meet.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Indoor Track & Field team hosted its 7th Annual Spartan Invitational (Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex). STAC will return to action on January 20 (10:00 a.m.) at the Ramapo College Opener (168th Street Armory, NYC).
