ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Two

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Kouto Anyika, Holy Family (Fr - Philadelphia, Pa.)
Anyika broke the school record in the 300m in his collegiate debut at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout on Friday, registering the 11th-fastest time (and top Division II mark), 35.41, amongst 76 entries

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Javon Bowen, Holy Family (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Making his collegiate debut, Bowen set an NCAA provisional mark with a school record to win the long jump at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout on Friday. Bowen topped the field of 41, marking at 7.22m to break Shane King's school record of 6.91m set in Feb. 2015 and move into fifth in Division II. He also ran the 60m in 7.12 to place 14th out of 65, and he was sixth out of 17 in the high jump after clearing 1.90m.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Kassandra Nolet, Daemen (Gr - Fort Erie, Ontario)
Nolet placed third out of 21 runners in the mile at the Nazareth Alumni Opener with a personal-best time of 5:15.65, eclipsing her previous best time of 15:17.19 that she posted at the Brockport Multi last February. Her mark is the fastest in the ECC this season.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Korryn Braxton-Young, Holy Family (Sr - Newark, Del.)
Braxton-Young registered the third-furthest toss out of 37 entries in the shot put, 12.09m, on Friday at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout. It is the top distance in the ECC this season by nearly one full meter (0.99).


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Dominic Clementi, Daemen (Sr - Barker, N.Y.)
Clementi ran the 1,000 meters for the first time in his career and placed eighth out of 26 runners with a time of 2:42.02 which ranks as the fifth fastest time in program history.

Emmanuel Mena Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Mena Jimenez placed second in the Weight Throw event at the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout with a toss of 17.25m. He also finished seventh in the Shot Put with a throw of 13.82m.

Demar Osbourne, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr - Fairport, N.Y.)
Osborne finished second in the shot put at the Nazareth Alumni Opener with a toss of 14.49m. 

Women
Alyssa Lebron, Queens (Fr - Massapequa, N.Y.)
Making her Collegiate debut, Lebron set the QC program record in the weight throw, throwing a distance of 14.90m as she placed seventh. She would place 14th in the shot put with a throw of 10.65m.

Antonette Pommells, Molloy (So - Huntington Station, N.Y.)
Pommells had two top-10 performances placing fourth in the 400-meter(59.72) and ninth in the 200-meter(25.73) at the Beacon Invite.

Dayna Thompson, Dist. Columbia (Fr - St. Mary, Jamaica)
In her college debut as a Firebird, Thompson placed seventh out of a field of 73 runners with a time of 40.23s, which was the fastest DII time of the day. Her time also broke the UDC school record by over a second.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen took part in the Nazareth Alumni Opener this past Friday. A third place showing by graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) in the mile, a fourth place effort by freshman Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 60 meter hurdles and a sixth place effort by graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) in the 3,000 meters highlighted the evening for the Wildcat women. Top-10 efforts senior Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) in the 1,000 meters, junior Connor O'Brien (Hamburg, N.Y.) in the mile run, and graduate student Henry Moffitt (Sydney, Australia) in the high jump and the long jump highlighted the evening for the Daemen men. The Wildcats will be idle until Jan. 21 when they head to Houghton University to take part in the Highlander Invitational.

District of Columbia: UDC had a strong showing at the Seahawk Shootout to open their season. They will be back in action after the Holiday meet to compete in the HBCU Showcase at the Armory in N.Y. on January 14th.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Georgian Court:  Georgian Court Track and Field was idle last week. They're back on the track after the New Year, Jan. 14 at the TCNJ Indoor Invite. 

Holy Family: Making his collegiate debut, freshman Javon Bowen set an NCAA provisional with a school record to win the long jump as HFU men's track & field closed out the 2022 calendar year at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout hosted at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday. Bowen topped the field of 41, marking at 7.22m to break Shane King's school record of 6.91m set in Feb. 2015 and move into fifth in Division II. Fellow freshman Kouto Anyika broke the school record in the 300m in his collegiate debut, registering the 11th-fastest time, 35.41, amongst 76 entries. Holy Family next competes in the New Year, returning to Ocean Breeze for the St. Thomas Invite on Jan. 13.

Shania Le Maitre and Kahdia Jones broke their own school records as the HFU women's track & field team closed out the 2022 calendar year at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout hosted at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday. Le Maitre's school record came in the 600m, as she crossed in 1:38.40 to place eighth in the field of 31, while Jones' school record of 41.63 was the 19th-fastest amongst 73 300m entries. Korryn Braxton-Young registered the third-furthest toss out of 37 entries in the shot put, 12.09m. Holy Family next competes in the New Year, returning to Ocean Breeze for the St. Thomas Invite on Jan. 13.

Molloy: Molloy ran at the Beacon Invitational. The Lions will return to action after the holidays at the Wagner Invite on January 6th.

Queens: The Knights opened the 22-23 season competing in the Wager Seahawk Shootout and women's rookie Alyssa Lebron rewrote the program record book in the weight throw as she threw for a 14.90m distance. Queens is off until January 6 as they return to Staten Island for the Wagner College Invitational.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Indoor Track & Field team took part in the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout (Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex). STAC will return to action on January 6 (1:00 p.m.) at the Wagner College Invitational (Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex).
