ECC Volleyball Report - Week Five

Player of the Week
Maggie Burns, Daemen (Jr, OH - Louisville, Ky.)
Burns led Daemen to a pair of home wins by averaging 4.14 kills and 3.71 digs per set and recording double-doubles in each match. She matched her career-high with 16 kills vs. Roberts Wesleyan despite playing in only three of the four sets. Burns added a team-high 14 digs vs. RWC. She wrapped the week by totaling 13 kills and 12 digs in a four-set win over St. Rose.

Defensive Player of the Week
Tynesha Adams, Mercy (Sr, RS - Prattville, Ala.)
Adams had a team-high 10 blocks with 14 digs and 17 kills in a 1-1 week for Mercy. The senior opened the week with 11 kills, seven digs and six blocks against Stonehill on Tuesday. Adams ended the week with six kills, four blocks and seven digs in the win over Molloy on Wednesday.

Setter of the Week
Olivia Alessi, Daemen (So, S/DS - East Aurora, N.Y.)
Alessi led Daemen to a pair of home wins by averaging 11.29 assists and 4.57 digs per set. She recorded double-doubles in both matches, bringing her season total to nine. Alessi had a match-high 32 assists in Thursday's win over Roberts Wesleyan while adding13 digs. She then had a match-high 47 assists and a team-high 19 digs in Saturday's win over St. Rose.

Rookie of the Week
Melanie Smith, Bridgeport (Fr, OH - Ft. Collins, Colo.)
Smith was outstanding for UB last week, notching double-digit kills in all three matches and falling just shy of three double-doubles, as she averaged 3.7 kills and 2.8 digs per set. At New Haven, Melanie slammed 13 kills with 13 digs. She followed that up with a match-best 16 kills and nine digs in a home win over Queens, and then closed out the banner week with 15 kills and 12 digs at Molloy. Smith also had four blocks and two assists on the week.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Kathleen Doherty, Molloy (Jr, OH - Massapequa Park, N.Y.)
Doherty tallied 34 kills, 38 digs, and five aces on the week. The junior recorded 10 kills while adding three assists, three service aces, and 14 digs against Mercy. Against Bridgeport, she registered 18 kills and 18 digs.

Jaden Drollinger, Bridgeport (Fr, S - Queens Creek, Ariz.)
Drollinger averaged 11.3 assists per set for the Purple Knights last week. She also chipped in 12 kills, 20 digs and three service aces in 12 sets played on the week. So far in 2021, Jaden is averaging 10.6 assists per set, and she leads Bridgeport with a total of 26 service aces this season.

Nilka Rivera Maldonado, Mercy (Sr, OH - Bayamon, Puerto Rico)
Rivera Maldonado had 27 kills, 17 digs and four blocks as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The senior opened the week with 11 kills and 12 digs against Stonehill on Tuesday. Rivera Maldonado ended the week with a team-high 16 kills in the Mavericks win over the defending ECC Champions Molloy on Wednesday.

Larissa Schneid, Mercy (Jr, OH - Sao Paulo, Brazil)
Schneid had 31 kills, 33 digs, and four blocks as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The junior opened the week with 18 kills, 19 digs, and four blocks against Stonehill on Tuesday. The outside hitter ended the week with 13 kills and 14 digs in the Mavericks win over the defending ECC Champions Molloy on Wednesday.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport volleyball team 1-2 last week losing to New Haven and Molloy and defeating Queens (N.Y.). The Purple Knights enter this week's action, a trip to St. Anselm on Wednesday and home tilts versus D'Youville on Saturday and Daemen on Sunday, with a 7-5 overall record and a 2-1 conference mark. Freshman Paola Hernandez leads the Purple Knights in kills per set at 3.47. Classmate setter Jaden Drollinger is averaging 10.6 assists per set, plus she leads the team with 26 service aces. On defense, graduate student Amanda Hennemann leads Bridgeport with a total of 144 digs, and senior Amanda Keller leads the squad in blocks averaging 0.7 per set.

Daemen: Daemen (9-6, 3-0 ECC) has now won five of their last six matches following home wins last week over Roberts Wesleyan (3-1) and St. Rose (3-1). Thursday's defeat of the rival Redhawks was Daemen's 13th straight in the series. The Wildcats continue to be led by grad student Caitlyn Meyer who leads the conference in total kills (199) and kills per set (3.69). Junior outside hitter Maggie Burns has come on of late, recording double-figure kills in three straight matches, including a career-best 16 in the win over RWC. The Wildcats host Edinboro this Thursday before playing important conference matches at Mercy and Bridgeport on the weekend.

D'Youville: The Saints dropped a pair of 3-0 contests at Gannon and against St. Rose (hosted by Daemen) last week ... Emma Wlostowski had a double-double against St. Rose with 23 assists and 14 digs ...

Mercy: The Mercy College volleyball team went 1-1 on the week with a win over Molloy and a loss to Stonehill. The Mavericks were led by junior Larissa Schneid who led the team in kills and digs. Mercy resumes action on Tuesday when they play at Queens at 7 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-2 on the week to move to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in ECC play. Molloy fell to Mercy, 3-1, Wednesday, September 29, New Haven, 3-0, Thursday, September 30, and defeated Bridgeport, 3-2, Saturday, October 2. Senior Graciela Cruz recorded 17 kills, junior Kathleen Doherty joined her in double digits with 10 while adding three assists, three service aces, and 14 digs, and graduate student Kassie Akouri Tejedor recorded 33 assists, 13 digs, seven kills, and one ace against the Mavericks. In the win over the Purple Knights, Doherty led the team with 18 kills, sophomore Colleen Moulder tallied 14 kills, and Akouri Tejedor logged 47 assists and nine kills.

Queens: The Knights host Mercy College Mavericks on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to Rochester, N.Y. as they go up against the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's volleyball team won its first match of the season on Friday against Saint Rose, 3-2. Earlier in the week the team lost to Daemen on the road, 3-1. The Redhawks will play D'Youville, Molloy, and Queens this week.
