ECC Women's Soccer Report - Week Two

Offensive Player of the Week
Nikki Bermudez, Mercy (Gr, M - Oceanside, N.Y.)
Bermudez had a team-high-tying three goals on the week as Mercy went 2-0. The graduate student opened the week with a goal in the win over Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday. Bermudez ended the week with two goals in the win over Wilmington on Saturday.

Defensive Player of the Week
Sarah Tappeto, Molloy (Jr, B - Merrick, N.Y.)
In a 2-0 week for Molloy, Tappeto was a mainstay on the backline logging 180 minutes and contributing to two shutouts for the Lions. The junior also totaled three assists on the week.

Rookie of the Week
Ancksu Dixon, Mercy (Fr, F - Freeport, N.Y.)
Dixon had a team-high seven points on two goals and three assists as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The freshman opened the week with a career-high six points on two goals and two assists in the win over Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday. Dixon ended the week with an assist in the win over Wilmington on Saturday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Alessandra Borsellino, Molloy (So, M - Hewlett, N.Y.)
Borsellino netted two goals on three shots on Sunday against Stonehill.

Sydney Cooper, Mercy (Gr, D - Long Beach, Calif.)
Cooper had two assists as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The graduate student recorded an assist in each of the Mavericks' wins over Southern Connecticut State and Wilmington.

Ariana Vargas, Queens (Jr, GK - Brentwood, N.Y.)
Vargas and her defense stood out making 13 saves on the week including tying a career-best 7 saves against St. Michael's in Sunday's high heat. The senior began the week making six saves against Chestnut Hill.

Ella White, Roberts Wesleyan (Fr, M - Clifton Park, N.Y.)
White scored two goals last week, tallying the game-winner in victories over Malone (2-1) and Bluefield St. (3-0) to help the Redhawks move to 4-0-0 on the season.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen:  Daemen played three games last week and went 0-2-1. The Wildcats outshot their three opponents last week by a combined 51-16 margin but managed just one goal. Junior midfielder Madita Zeitz netted Daemen's lone goal during the week. The Wildcats are idle until Saturday (Sept. 10) when they host ECC preseason favorite Mercy in the conference opener for both teams.

D'Youville: Women's Soccer picked up their first win of the season, sealing a 2-0 victory at home over Bluefield State. The Saints will play ECC foe, Queens, on the road on Saturday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for noon.

Lincoln: Lincoln began the season with a 9-0 loss to Dominican. The Lions have non-conference matchups with Bloomfield (Sep. 8) and Felician (Sep. 10) on tap this week. 

Mercy: The Mercy College women's soccer team went 2-0 on the week with wins over Southern Connecticut State and Wilmington. The Mavericks were led by freshman Ancksu Dixon who had a team-high seven points. Mercy resumes action on Tuesday when they host Adelphi at 3 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 2-0 this week to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Lions collected two shutouts, defeating Caldwell, 2-0, Wednesday, August 31, and Stonehill, 3-0, Sunday, September 4.

Queens: Women's soccer went on 0-2 on the week as the Knights were defeated by Chestnut Hill College and Saint Michael's College. Senior goalie Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) made 13 saves on the week. The Knights host Post to end a four-game homestead before traveling to Buffalo as Queens opens ECC play against D'Youville.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team improved to 4-0 this season with a pair of wins over Malone (2-1) and Bluefield State (2-0). The Redhawks will host STAC on Saturday for their first ECC matchup of the season.

Staten Island: No team notes submitted.

St. Thomas Aquinas: St. Thomas Aquinas (0-3) went 0-1 on the week, falling at New Haven 3-0. STAC gets back to action on September 7 vs. Alliance University (4 p.m.) and then at Roberts Wesleyan on September 10 (1 p.m.).
