ECC Women's Lacrosse Report - Week Three

Offensive Player of the Week
Sam Newlin, D'Youville (Fr, M - Austin, Texas)
Newlin tallied 11 goals and three assists for 14 points over three games last week. She began the week with four goals and an assist in a win over Edinboro. She followed with another seven points on six goals and an assist in a loss to Mercyhurst before wrapping up the week with one goal and one assist as the Saints were defeated by Lock Haven. Newlin also added 15 draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers on the week.  

Defensive Player of the Week
Lindsey Shimborske, Mercy (So, D - Farmingdale, N.Y.)
Shimborske had a team-high seven caused turnovers, seven draw controls and eight ground balls as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The sophomore opened the week with an assist, five ground balls, four draw controls and a game-high five caused turnovers in the win over No. 16 Assumption on Wednesday. Shimborske ended the week with three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers against No. 6 Adelphi on Saturday.

Rookie of the Week
Madison Handley, D'Youville (Fr, M - Lancaster, N.Y.)
Handley had 13 points with eight goals and five assists, while also adding seven draw controls and three ground balls in a 1-2 week for the Saints. Her best outing came in a loss to Mercyhurst where she had five goals, three assists, three ground balls, and four draw controls. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Micayla Brady, Mercy (Gr, D - Massapequa Park, N.Y.)
Brady had five caused turnovers, five draw controls and three ground balls in a 1-1 week for Mercy. The graduate student opened the week with two ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers in the win over No. 16 Assumption on Wednesday. Brady ended the week with one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover against No. 6 Adelphi on Saturday.

Alejandra Lainez-Rodriguez, Dist. Columbia (Jr, M - Riverdale, Md.)
Lainez-Rodriguez picked up four points off four goals on the week. She also picked up 10 ground balls, won six draw controls, and forced one turnover.

Megan Rugolo, Molloy (So, M - Oceanside, N.Y.)
Rugolo had a six-point week for the Lions, netting two goals and one assist in each of Molloy's two games. On the week, she had four goals on five shots, all of which were on target. The sophomore added two draw controls against the Chargers.

Jada Williams, Dist. Columbia (So, M - Kingston, Jamaica)
Williams scored a season-high eight goals in the Firebirds' lone game against Edinboro. In addition, she won seven draw controls and picked up five ground balls.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen (1-2, 0-0 ECC) hosted Walsh in its first ever home game this past Tuesday. The Wildcats suffered a 21-2 loss to Walsh and closed the week with a 16-5 loss at Saint Rose. Graduate student Casey Decatur (Apollo Beach, Fla.) has scored a goal in all three games and has totaled a team-high 12 points (6 gas, 6 asts). Freshman goalie Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) made a season-high 13 saves in the loss to Saint Rose. Daemen will face a nationally-ranked team for the first time ever when the Wildcats head to Le Moyne for a non-league game Wednesday. Daemen will cap the week with home games against Tiffin on Friday and Gannon on Sunday.

Dist. Columbia: UDC went 0-1 on the week falling to Edinboro in their home opener. Next up they host Chestnut Hill at home on Wednesday.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The No. 11/12 Mercy College women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 on the week with a 13-11 win over No. 16 Assumption and  a 9-5 loss to No. 6 Adelphi. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk who had a team-high five goals. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Bloomsburg at 3 p.m.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team (0-4) suffered a pair of losses to Chestnut Hill (11-5) and Southern New Hampshire (21-2). STAC returns to action on March 7 at Dominican and March 10 at Caldwell.
