Central Islip, N.Y. - After a six game winning
streak to begin their season, the University of the District of
Columbia women's basketball team jumped into the USA Today Sports
Division II Top 25 poll. The Firebirds enter the rankings at No.
20.
UDC finally makes its way into the poll after receiving votes in
the preseason and first three polls of the season. The Firebirds
have been dominant so far, winning their first six contests by an
average of 10.8 points per game. Their hot start also includes a
2-0 record in ECC play.
This marks the first time UDC has been ranked since the 2011-12
season. Then, in their inaugural season in the ECC, the Firebirds
reached No. 23 in the Week 12 poll.
UDC will take on another ranked school, No. 23 Shaw, in their next
contest on December 11.
