Washington, D.C.  –  The University of the District of Columbia men's and women's basketball team hosted their annual Think Pink/Coaches vs. Cancer Games during Wednesday night's doubleheader vs. East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas on January 9th, 2013.

"Think Pink" tribute basketballs and "Firebirds Think Pink" bracelets were sold for $2 apiece, with 100-percent of the proceeds going directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Both the men's and women's teams wore pink t-shirts during pre-game warm-ups, and the women's team also sported pink socks, wrist-bands and head-bands during the game. Head men's basketball coach Jeff Ruland, who guided his team to a 75-72 victory over the Spartans, also wore his "Think Pink" t-shirt during the game. He and his staff wore sneakers instead of dress shoes as part of the "Coaches vs. Cancer" effort as well.

The women's basketball coaching staff, in addition to several members of the University of the District of Columbia gameday staff, also wore pink to promote the event.
