ECC Baseball Report - Week Two

Player of the Week
Ethan Hammond, D'Youville (Sr, OF - Oakville, Ontario)
Hammond hit .545 over four games last week with 6 hits in 11 at-bats. Hammond smacked a home run and three doubles, scored seven runs, and drove in five to help the Saints to a 2-2 record.

Pitcher of the Week
Brian Morrisey, Molloy (Sr, P -)
Morrisey picked up his first win of the 2023 campaign against Wilmington. The right-hander tossed seven innings of shutout baseball while allowing two hits and striking out five in Molloy's 6-0 win over the Wildcats.

Rookie of the Week
Blaise Kolbert, D'Youville (Fr, IF/P - Lancaster, N.Y.)
Kolbert hit .353 (6-for-17) with two doubles, five runs scored, and four RBI over four games last week.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Andrew Guerra, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, OF - Harriman, N.Y.)
Guerra went 6-for-15 (.400 average) with a double, two home runs, three RBI, and four runs scored over four games for STAC.

Ryan Kehoe, Staten Island (So, P/IF - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Kehoe allowed just four hits and did not surrender a run in CSI's matchup with Adelphi on Saturday. He went 7 innings to help lead the Dolphins to their first victory of the season over the Panthers, 4-0. In addition to allowing just four hits, he struck out five and picked up his first win of the season in his first start.

Gabe Sanders, Mercy (Jr, UTL - Dunedin, Fla.)
Sanders hit a team-high .381 (8-for-21) with a team-high five RBI to go along with six runs, two doubles, a home run and two stolen bases in six games this week. The junior opened the week going 1-for-4 with three runs and an RBI in Mercy's upset win over UNC Pembroke on Tuesday. Sanders then went 3-for-4 with a run and two doubles against Franklin Pierce on Thursday. He then went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI against Felician on Friday. Sanders went 1-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored in the doubleheader against Southern N.H. on Saturday. Sanders ended the week going 1-for-3 against Le Moyne on Sunday.

Francis Segarra, Queens (Jr, SS - Bronxville, N.Y.)
Segarra led the way in the Knights' first four games of the season recording seven hits with three extra-base hits as he recorded a double, triple, and a home run to go with a team-high eight RBI. in the Knights' 6-4 victory over Post, the shortstop went 4-for-5  to go with three RBI as he fell one blast short of hitting for the cycle as he recorded his first four-hit game of the season. The Bronxville native would conclude his weekend with a game-and-career high five RBI as he unofficially hit for the cycle on the weekend going 2-for-5 with his first home run.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 1-5 on the week with a win over No. 13 UNC Pembroke and losses to Franklin Pierce, Felician, Southern N.H. and Le Moyne. The Mavericks were led by junior Gabe Sanders who had a team-high five RBI. Mercy resumes action on Saturday when they play at Southern Connecticut State at 12 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to take part in the Northeast Challenge. Molloy went 3-1 on the weekend to move to 6-1 on the campaign. The 20th ranked Lions return home to host Adelphi in its home-opener Friday, March 3.

Queens: Baseball opened the season going 2-2 as they defeated Post and Chestnut Hill in Myrtle Beach. Junior Francis Segarra led the way with seven hits and eight RBI on the weekend, while seniors Liam Pulsipher and Dean Fazah earned their first wins of the season.

Staten Island: The Dolphins played four games this past weekend beginning with a 10-0 loss to Southern Connecticut State University on Friday and a split of Saturday's doubleheader against Adelphi. On Sunday, the Dolphins were shut out once again by Felician University, 9-0. At the plate Domenick Castiglione is off to a red-hot start with 7 hits in his first 14 at-bats and Ryan Kehoe delivered 7 shutout innings in his first start of the year.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team opened its 2023 schedule going 1-3 in Myrtle Beach, by splitting a doubleheader with Le Moyne (W, 13-4 and L, 2-1) and falling to Franklin Pierce, 2-0 and So. New Hampshire, 8-4. STAC returns to action on March 1 (3:00 p.m.) at Pace and then heads to Cary, N.C. March 3-5 for a four-game road trip against Saint Anselm, West Chester (PA), and Augustana.
