Purple Knights Sweep New Haven in NCAA East Regional Quarterfinal Action

Garden City, N.Y. - East Coast Conference and Conference Commissioner's Association 2015 East Region Player of the Year, University of Bridgeport junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) recorded a double-double with a match-high 11 kills and 13 digs to help lead the Purple Knights to a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-20, 25-12) over the University of New Haven Chargers in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. 

UB, the number two seed in the regional, moves on the semifinals, where they will face fellow East Coast Conference member Dowling College (number three seed) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, with a 26-8 record.  The number seven seeded Chargers finished their 2015 campaign at 18-16.

Bridgeport junior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) was solid on offense in the win on Thursday notching eight kills with no errors for an impressive .615 attack percentage.

Senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) added seven kills and three block assists for the winner, and classmate Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) had five kills and three block assists for the Purple Knights.

UB freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed her team's offense to the tune of 33 assists, and junior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led all players on defense in the match with 20 digs, plus she also had three of Bridgeport's 10 service aces on the afternoon.
