Oakdale, N.Y. - The Dowling volleyball team defeated the C.W. Post Pioneers, 3-0, in East Coast Conference (ECC) Semifinal action, advancing to the Championship Final this Saturday. Dowling will face the University of Bridgeport at 5:00 PM at Dowling Gymnasium. The Purple Knights reached the Final by taking a 3-1 win over NYIT earlier in the day.
The first set of the DC vs. C.W. Post match saw Dowling take a 25-12 victory over the Pioneers, with Bethany Shepard hitting an impressive .889 with 8 kills. Jordan Schroer contributed 5 kills for C.W. Post, but a team hitting percentage of just .208 was ultimately responsible for the first set loss.
Poor hitting plagued both sides in the second set, but it was the Golden Lions that pulled away and earned a 25-20 victory to go up 2-0 in the match. Morgan Mutranowski added a much needed boost with 5 service aces in the set while Maja Potpara tallied 3 kills.
The Golden Lions hit .295 in the third set, with Bethany Shepard and Chelsea Callahan each tallying 5 kills, to win the match with a 25-17 final. Shepard led both teams in the match with 15 kills, hitting .438 on the night while Callahan was next in line with a total of 9 kills off .400 hitting. Jordan Schroer had a team high 10 kills for the Pioneers.
