LEXINGTON, KY. – Women’s volleyball
coach Shellane Ogoshi will be featured in the upcoming April/May
edition of Coaching Volleyball magazine part as one of the Thirty
Under 30 Recipients.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the
awards, recognizing those volleyball coaches across the country who
were younger than 30 years old in 2010. The award was created in
2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the
sports.
Coach Ogoshi is one of three NCAA Division II coaches recognized,
among 18 head coaches and 12 assistants across the country named on
the list. This past season of 2010, Ogoshi led the Pioneers to a
20-13 record, leading to a NCAA berth. In the two seasons at the
helm for the Pioneers, Ogoshi has complied a record of 34-27 while
earning ECC Co-Coach of the Year during her first season.
After a stellar career at Hofstra, the Pride retired Ogoshi’s
jersey in 2008. During her time at Hofstra, she played in 118
matches during her career and tallied 4,597 assists and 1,660 digs.
She was a two-time Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Setter of
the Year (2005 and 2006) and also earned 2005 CAA Player of the
Year accolades. The 2004 CAA Rookie of the Year and a CAA
All-Rookie team selection, Ogoshi went on to earn All-CAA first
team honors in each of her next three seasons. In addition, she was
an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention
All-Region pick as a sophomore and was the CAA Championship Most
Outstanding Player in 2006.
