West Babylon, N.Y. - Ebba Rosberg (Stockholm, Sweden) headlined the ECC Women’s Tennis All-Conference selections announced on Thursday, as the St. Thomas Aquinas standout was named the league’s Player of the Year. In addition, University of the District of Columbia’s Célia Bastin (Dinant, Belgium) was picked as the ECC Rookie of the Year.
Rosberg was unbeatable in singles play during dual matches this fall. She went 8-0 overall which included a 5-0 record in ECC play. All eight dual match wins came at the No. 1 position. Rosberg also excelled in doubles action with partner Samanta Villegas Robles, finishing with a 6-1 record at the No. 1 position. Including tournament play, Rosberg finished the season with overall records of 10-1 in singles and 7-2 in doubles.
Like Rosberg, Bastin was nearly unbeatable in her collegiate debut. She heads into the conference tournament with a 9-1 singles record and a 7-2 doubles record. A four-time ECC Rookie of the Week, Bastin was also a perfect 5-0 in both singles (No. 4 and No. 5) and doubles (No. 2) during conference play.
The ECC Coach of the Year award went to St. Thomas Aquinas’ Daniel Rockhill. In his first season, Rockhill led the Spartans to a perfect 8-0 record and a 5-0 mark in conference play to capture the league’s regular season championship.
