ECC Women's Tennis Championship Set to Begin on Friday

West Babylon, N.Y. – Daemen, District of Columbia, Queens, and St. Thomas Aquinas, the same four teams that competed in last year's tournament, will battle in this year's version of the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship that begins on Friday afternoon. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II Championship.

Queens College will once again serve as tournament host at their on-campus tennis center in Flushing, N.Y. First-serve comes on Friday, October 28 with two semifinal matchups. The winners will advance to the championship match on Saturday, October 29.

St. Thomas Aquinas (8-0, 5-0 ECC) won the conference's regular season championship for the second time in three seasons to earn the tournament's top seed. The Spartans have never won an ECC Championship and have only appeared in the final once, during the 2020 season.

No. 4 seed, Daemen (3-6, 2-3 ECC) will be STAC's semifinal opponent. The Wildcats, making their third straight ECC Championship appearance, dropped their regular season match to the Spartans by a tally of 7-0.

Defending ECC Champion, District of Columbia is the No. 2 seed, entering tournament play with a record of 6-2 (4-1 ECC). The Firebirds claimed their second-ever ECC title in 2021 and their first since the 2011 season.

In a rematch of last season's championship final, UDC will take on host and No. 3 seed, Queens (4-2, 3-2 ECC) in the other semifinal. The Knights have won the ECC Championship nine times and have advanced to the final of the tournament in 18 of the past 19 seasons.

The two teams met last weekend in the regular season finale, with the Firebirds coming out on top by a slim 4-3 margin.

Each match of the championship will be streamed live on the ECC Network. Watch the ECC Network at www.eccsportsnetwork.com or by downloading the ECC Network app. Find the app by searching "ECC Network" on Apple or Android mobile phones and tablets or on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku streaming devices. The broadcasts will mainly focus on the No. 1 flight in both doubles and singles but will switch to other courts when possible throughout the match.
