STAC's Record-Setting Season Ended in 4-2 Defeat by Le Moyne at NCAA Tournament

Wilmington, Del. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team competed in its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament on Friday, facing off with Le Moyne College in one of two East Regional brackets, held at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

The No. 4 seed Spartans saw its 10-match win streak and record-setting season come to an end at the hands of the No. 5 seeded Dolphins by the score of 4-2.

STAC closes its 2022 campaign with a 19-3 overall record and a 4-1 ECC mark, while Le Moyne advances in the tournament to face the top seed and hosts, Wilmington University.

The Dolphins took two of three doubles matches to earn their first team point, before moving to singles competition, where Le Moyne took a commanding 3-0 lead and put STAC on the brink of tournament elimination. However, the Spartans fought back and captured victories at the number five and six positions, when Elita Silins beat Francesca Lilligren 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 and Eliza Mulder was triumphant over Brooke Fernandez 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Unfortunately, one final singles victory by Le Moyne closed out the match, ending STAC's historic season.
