Women's Tennis Championship To Begin on Friday

West Babylon, N.Y. - It took until the final match of the regular season on Monday afternoon, but the bracket for the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship is now set. Queens College, University of the District of Columbia, St. Thomas Aquinas College, and Molloy College will all compete for the league's championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship.

The tournament returns to the Queens College Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. with first-serve of the semifinals coming on Friday, October 25. The winners of the semifinals will advance to the championship match on Sunday, October 26 at 12 noon.

For the third year in a row, the tournament host, Queens (8-0, 5-0 ECC), is the top seed after an undefeated run through ECC play. Despite the regular season success, the Knights have been the tournament's runner-up for seven straight years and have not won an ECC Championship since 2010.

No. 4 seed, Molloy (4-5, 2-3 ECC) will be Queens' semifinal opponent. The Lions are making their first appearance in the tournament since the 2012 season. Queens swept the regular season meeting between the two schools, 7-0, on September 21.

UDC comes into the tournament as the No. 2 seed with a record of 10-1, 4-1 ECC. The Firebirds have been mainstays in the championship, with eight appearances over the last nine seasons. UDC is the only other team in the bracket to have previously won an ECC Championship, doing so in the 2011 season.

The Firebirds will take on No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas (9-4, 3-2 ECC). The Spartans are making their second championship appearance in the past three seasons.

UDC took the regular season meeting between the two schools by a 5-2 margin on September 26.

Each match of the championship will be streamed live on the ECC Network. Watch the ECC Network at www.eccsportsnetwork.com or by downloading the ECC Network app. Find the app by searching "ECC Network" on Apple or Android mobile phones and tablets or on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku streaming devices. The broadcasts will mainly focus on the No. 1 flight in both doubles and singles but will switch to other courts when possible throughout the match.
