West Babylon, N.Y. - With regular season play coming to a close on Saturday, the bracket for the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship has been finalized. Tournament action begins with semifinal play on Saturday, October 27 at the Queens College Tennis Center. The winners of the semifinals will advance to the championship match on Sunday, October 28 at 12 noon.
For the second year in a row, tournament host, Queens (9-0, 7-0 ECC), is the top seed after an undefeated run through ECC play. The Knights will attempt to claim their first ECC Championship since 2010 after finishing as the league's runner-up in each of the past six seasons.
Queens' semifinal opponent will be No. 4 seed, Roberts Wesleyan (8-6, 4-3 ECC). The Redhawks are making their first-ever appearance in the tournament. On October 19, Queens swept the regular season meeting between the two schools by a score of 7-0.
The other semifinal matchup features the six-time defending ECC Champion, NYIT (12-2, 6-1 ECC). The Bears look to continue their run of ECC dominance when they square off with University of the District of Columbia (9-2, 5-2 ECC) in the semifinals. The Firebirds, who last won an ECC title in 2011, are back in the bracket for the seventh time in eight seasons after missing out a season ago.
October 19 was also the date of the regular season matchup between NYIT and UDC, with the Bears coming out on top by a final of 6-1.
