Mercy's Season Comes to Close with Loss to Saint Rose in NCAA Second Round

Albany, N.Y. - Despite a shot on goal from graduate student Jessica Hoyt (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and a game-high three saves from freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly), the No. 4 seeded Mercy College women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 1 seeded The College of Saint Rose in an NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Second Round matchup on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

The Mavericks (14-3-2) see their season come to an end in the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season. Mercy advanced to the Second Round for the third straight season and won their third ECC Championship. The Mavericks end the year with their most wins a season since 2017. The Golden Knights (19-0-3) advance to next week's Third Round and improve to 8-0-2 all-time against Mercy.

Hoyt recorded the Mavericks' lone shot on goal and had a team-high two shots. Anaya made three saves to take the loss.

Saint Rose was led by Mia Klammer who had two goals and by Sanna Rein, Kaelyn Britt, and Carolyn Brussel who all recorded a goal. Pia Bozic played the first 78:42 minutes in goal with one save to earn the win.

The Golden Knights recorded the game's first goal in the 32nd minute on the first shot on goal by either team to take a 1-0 lead. Klammer put home a Lauren Amerena cross to give the hosts the lead. Mercy had their best scoring chance late in the first half when a Hoyt shot in front of the goal was stopped by Bozic. The Mavericks also had three late corner kicks but were unable to capitalize and headed into halftime down, 1-0.

Klammer gave Saint Rose a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute when she fired a shot from the right side into the upper left corner of the goal. Brussel increased the Golden Knights lead to 3-0 in the 62nd minute on a free kick just outside the box.

Rein and Britt netted the final Saint Rose goals in the 76th and 79th minutes to give the hosts the 5-0 lead.

Saint Rose held a 12-4 edge in shots and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. Saint Rose held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
