Mercy Earns 3-0 Win Over Adelphi in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Albany, N.Y. – Powered by two goals from freshman Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and a goal from graduate student Claudia McKail (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon), the No. 4 seeded Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over No. 5 seeded Adelphi University in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship on Friday morning at Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Mavericks (14-2-2) defeat the Panthers (12-6-2) for the second time this season. Mercy advances to the Second Round for the third straight season and will face the winner of Saint Rose/Jefferson on Sunday, November 13th at Saint Rose at 2 p.m.

Dixon now has a team-high-tying 11 goals on the season and a school-record-tying 33 points on the year. McKail added her third goal of the season and graduate student Nikki Bermudez (Oceanside, N.Y./New York Tech) dished out two assists. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made three saves to earn the shutout win.

Adelphi was led by Madison Apicella who had a team-high two shots. Lydia Fraga Cordoba made eight saves to take the loss.

Mercy came out with the first two shots on goal of the game before Bermudez fed Dixon for the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute to make it 1-0. Anaya closed the half with two saves to keep Mercy ahead 1-0 at halftime.

Anaya made her final save in the 62nd minute to keep Adelphi from scoring. McKail added to the Mavericks' lead in the 86th minute to make it 2-0 after another Bermudez assist. Dixon put the finishing touches on the win with her second goal of the game with less than 30 seconds left to give Mercy the 3-0 win.

Mercy held a 20-4 edge in shots and an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday, November 13th at 2 p.m. when they face the winner of Saint Rose/Jefferson in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament at Saint Rose.
