Rosa Scores Game-Winning Goal as Mercy Earns 2-0 Win Over Daemen in ECC Semifinal

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – Powered by a goal and an assist from junior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin), the top-seeded Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over No. 4 seeded Daemen University in an East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Soccer Championship Semifinal on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (13-2-1) are unbeaten in their last four games and defeat the Wildcats (5-10-2) for the second time this season. The Mavericks defeat Daemen in the Semifinals for the second straight year. Mercy advances to the Final for the second straight year and for the fifth time in program history. The Mavericks will host the winner of Molloy/Roberts Wesleyan in the Final on Saturday, November 5th at 1 p.m. Mercy will look to win their third ECC Championship in program history.

Rosa netted her second goal of the season and her sixth assist of the season. Freshman Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) added her ninth goal of the season and now has a team-high 29 points. Graduate student Jessica Hoyt (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) added her first assist of the season. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) did not face a shot on goal to earn her seventh shutout of the season.

Daemen was led by Tori DeLappi who made three saves.

Mercy recorded the first three shots in the contest before Hoyt sent a cross from right to left and Rosa fired a ball from outside the box into the upper right corner of the net to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute of action.

DeLappi made another save in the 20th minute and a Daemen defender stopped an Emma Best (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) shot from going in right before halftime to keep the score at 1-0 entering halftime.

The score remained 1-0 until the 59th minute when Rosa sent a cross from left to right and Dixon finished on the right side to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.

The Mercy defense would not surrender a shot on goal for the entire game enroute to earning the 2-0 win.

Mercy held a 15-2 edge in shots and a 6-0 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, November 5th when they host the winner of Molloy/Roberts Wesleyan in the ECC Final at 1 p.m.
