Kansas City, Mo. - Two ECC squads were listed
in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA) with Mercy moving up to No. 16 and Bridgeport rejoining the
rankings at No. 21 after a one week hiatus.
One week after debuting in the poll for the first time in program
history, Mercy moved up nine spots to No. 16 in this week's poll.
The Mavericks improved to 9-1-0 on the season with wins over Daemen
and Roberts Wesleyan. Mercy's win over Roberts was an impressive
one, as the Mavericks came back from a 3-1 deficit with less than
10 minutes remaining in the match to score a 4-3 overtime
victory.
After falling to Mercy in a rematch of last year's ECC Championship
final for their first loss of the season, Bridgeport rebounded with
a 1-0 triumph over Queens to move back into the national rankings.
The Purple Knights, who had been ranked every other week of the
season prior to missing the cut last week, improved to 6-1-1 on the
year.
LIU Post, who is off to an 8-1-0 start on the year, was listed in
the national poll in the others receiving votes category as
well.
All three ECC schools listed in the national rankings, were near
the top of the NSCAA East Region rankings, too. Mercy, Bridgeport,
and LIU Post are ranked consecutively from No. 2 to No. 4 after
nationally top-ranked Saint Rose. A fourth ECC school, Dowling, is
also listed in the East Region poll at No. 9.
