LIU Post Rolls Past Bridgeport in ECC First Round, 19-12

Brookville, N.Y. – The No. 3 seed LIU Post women's lacrosse team rolled past the University of Bridgeport by a 19-12 final at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Tuesday, April 30 in the first round of the East Coast Conference Championship.

Junior Brianna Feldman led all scorers with seven goals and one assist, while classmate Paige Sherlock added four tallies with one helper. Sophomore Jamie Alvino matched her career high with three goals while also adding one assist herself. Junior Alyssa Mallery recorded her 200th career point and also led the Pioneers with seven draw controls.

Just 72 seconds into the contest, Feldman found the back of the cage for the first time and moments later Brisotti scored to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0. Bridgeport answered quickly with two goals to level the scoring, 2-2 before the Green and Gold dominated the final 23 minutes of the opening half. Sherlock scored her first goal of the day 32 seconds after the Purple Knights tied the score, sparking a 7-0 run to close out the first half. Feldman added three more goals before the intermission and Alvino tallied two goals, including a man-down goal to help LIU Post take a 9-2 lead into halftime.

The Purple Knights scored three of the first four goals of the half but Mallery finally got on the score sheet with her first goal of the game at the 25-minute mark and put home another goal three minutes later to keep the Pioneer lead at six goals (11-5).

Feldman and Sherlock combined for three goals in a two-minute span midway through the second half to help the Pioneers counter another two-goal burst by Bridgeport, pushing the lead back to 14-7. Feldman ripped one into the back of the cage to cap a four-goal run for the Pioneers who eventually took their largest lead at 17-8 lead with 6:45 remaining.

The Pioneers continue into the ECC semifinals on Thursday, May 2 at President's Stadium at neighboring New York Institute of Technology beginning at 4:00 p.m.
