Central Islip, N.Y. – Sophomore attacker
Jackie Sileo from C.W. Post has been named the 2012 East Coast
Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. Fellow
Pioneers Chelsea Donaldson and Dominque Mosca also earned top
All-Conference awards, taking home the Defensive Player of the Year
and Goalkeeper of the Year honors respectively. Dowling freshman
Jackie Andersen rounds out the All-Conference major awards, earning
the Rookie of the Year.
After being named the ECC Rookie of the Year in 2011, Sileo was
even better as a sophomore, registering one of the highest scoring
seasons in NCAA history. In 17 matches on the year, Sileo posted an
amazing 124 points to lead the conference and all of Division II.
The point total, which she has amassed by scoring 38 goals and
dishing off 86 assists, is currently the seventh highest single
season total in Division II history. Sileo has a chance to move up
the list in the Pioneers upcoming NCAA Tournament appearance.
After being named the ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year,
Donaldson earns the same award in the 2012 postseason. Donaldson
was the driving force behind a C.W. Post defense that led the
conference and ranked fifth in the nation in allowing only 8.24
goals per game. Donaldson led the Pioneers and ranked in the
top-10 in the conference with 39 ground balls and also finished
second on the C.W. Post squad with 13 caused turnovers.
Mosca takes home the Goalkeeper of the Year honor after posting a
14-3 record between the pipes for the Pioneers. Mosca finished in
the top-three in conference in goals against average (8.48), saves
(149), and save percentage (.538). Her goals against average led
the conference and in ECC action, she also posted a conference
leading .568 save percentage.
Andersen was a prolific goal scorer to help lead Dowling to an ECC
title in her first season in a Golden Lions uniform. Her 61 goals
on the season were good for third in the ECC and her 82 points on
the season also place her among the conference leaders, coming in
fourth. A four-time Rookie of the Week selection, Andersen also
finished in the top-ten in all of Division II with 3.75 goals per
game.
Meghan McNamara has been voted the 2012 Coach of the Year by her
peers. Under McNamara’s guidance, the Pioneers finished with
a 14-3 record and also received their fourth berth in the last five
seasons into the NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse
Tournament.
