Central Islip, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Cassandra Cronin from Dowling has been named the 2011 East Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year.  Fellow Golden Lions Rachael Goldstein has been selected Goalkeeper of the Year while Jackie Sileo of C.W. Post earns the Rookie of the Year honor.

Cronin has been an all around force for the Golden Lions this season.  She leads her team with 47 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers. She also leads the conference and ranks fourth nationally in caused turnovers per game at 2.18. Offensively, she has tallied 78 points on the season, connecting for 47 goals and adding 31 assists.  Those numbers place her in the top ten in the ECC in goals per game, assists per game, and points per game.

Goldstein was a standout between the pipes in her senior season for Dowling.  She posted a 15-2 record defending the goal for the Golden Lions while compiling a 9.03 goals against average to rank tenth in Division II.  Goldstein made 140 stops on the season, including six games with double digit saves to tally a .507 save percentage.

Sileo made an immediate impact on the Pioneers, posting one of the best freshman seasons in school history. Sileo finished the 2011 campaign with 34 goals and 67 assists for 101 points to lead C.W. Post. The six-time Rookie of the Week’s point total was the third highest in the ECC and she also finished second in the conference with 3.94 assists per game.

Kerri McCabe has been voted the 2011 Coach of the Year by her peers.  McCabe guided Dowling, a fourth year program, to a 15-2 overall mark and their first ever ECC Championship.  Under McCabe’s guidance, the Golden Lions also received their first ever berth into NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Tournament.
