Mena-Jimenez and Rose Headline ECC Outdoor Track & Field  All-Conference Awards

West Babylon, N.Y. – Emmanuel Mena-Jimenez (West Haverstraw, N.Y.) of St. Thomas Aquinas College and Shanise Rose (Kingston, Jamaica) of the University of the District of Columbia earned top billing in the East Coast Conference’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference honors with their selections as the league’s Athlete of the Year.

Mena-Jimenez was selected as the Men’s Athlete of the Year. The freshman earns the honor after winning 12 different throwing events during the spring season. He won multiple events at five different meets including taking the shot put (13.67m), discus (47.02m), and hammer (50.72m) at the ECC Championship. He also won twice at the St. Thomas 8 Way (shot put, discus), Lafayette Open (discus, hammer), Ramapo Invitational (discus, hammer), and the Misercordia Twilight (discus, hammer). He also topped the conference with his best marks in the shot put (51.14m), discus (51.13m), and hammer (51.14m).

Rose takes the Athlete of the Year honor on the women’s side after excelling in the 100m hurdles. She won the event at the ECC Championship (14.66) and the Gallaudet Invitational (15.37). Her best time in the event, which was also the top mark in the ECC this season, came at the Morgan State Legacy Meet where she crossed the line fifth in a time of 14.36. Rose finished in the top-six in the ECC in the 100m (2nd – 12.20), 200m (6th – 25.70), and long jump (5th – 4.86m).

The Most Outstanding Athletes of the ECC Championship were also announced. Mena-Jimenez also won this honor after his aforementioned victories in the shot put, discus, and hammer. Iyanna Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica) of UDC takes the honor on the women’s side after compiling 36 points for the Firebirds. She took first place finishes in both the 100m (12.16) and 200m (25.10) dash and helped the 4x100 (49.23) and 4x400 (4:09.20) squads to second place finishes.

Roberts Wesleyan's, Mark McCown, and St. Thomas Aquinas’, Ray Kondracki, each was named the Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. McCown earns the honor on the women’s side, while Kondracki claims the men’s award after leading their squads to first place finishes in the ECC Championship.

In addition, the ECC also announces the All-Conference finishers from the championship meet. The top two finishers in each event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference distinction. A list of all winners can be found below.
