ECC Announces Track & Field All-Conference; Ware & Betts Take Top Honors

West Babylon, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference announced its outdoor track & field All-Conference honorees on Thursday morning. In addition, James Betts (Congers, N.Y.) and Lydia Ware (Averill Park, N.Y.) were named the ECC Athlete of the Year for their respective gender.

Betts claims the Men’s Athlete of the Year award after multiple top-three finishes throughout the outdoor season. He twice won the 1,500m and added two second-place finishes in the event, as well. His best 1,500m time was 3:50.59 at the Redhawks Capstone Meet, good for a fourth-place finish and a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championship. Betts also won the 5,000m at the ECC Championship in a meet record time of 15:16.23.

Ware takes the top honor on the women’s side after finishing in first place in all but two events she was entered in during the outdoor season. She was victorious once in the 60m, and twice in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay. Additionally, Ware clocked the fastest times among ECC student-athletes in both the 100m (12.5) and 200m (26.03) dashes this spring. Both times came in first-place finishes at the ECC Championship. Her 100m time was also sixth-best in the East Region.

The Most Outstanding Athletes of the ECC Championship were also announced. The women’s honor was shared by Hailee Lowe of Roberts Wesleyan and Meaghan O’Callaghan of Molloy. Lowe won the 100m hurdles (15.77), 400m hurdles (1:09.31), long jump (4.72m), and was part of the winning 4x100m relay team (52.72). O’Callaghan won the 400m dash (1:01.30) and came in second in the 4x400m relay (4:16.35).

Daemen’s Sullivan Keller was selected as the men’s recipient of the Most Outstanding Athlete of the ECC Championship award. Keller had first-place finishes in the shot put (14.80m), hammer throw (47.81m), and the javelin (51.22m). He also came in second in the discus with a toss of 35.95m.

Roberts Wesleyan's, Mark McCown, earns the Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year award for both the men and women after the Redhawks swept the ECC Championship Meet.

In addition, the ECC also announces the All-Conference finishers from the championship meet. The top two finishers in each event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference distinction. A list of all winners can be found below.
