Central Islip, N.Y. - Enock Bor (Eldoret,
Kenya) of Roberts Wesleyan and Kaydian Jones (Kingston, Jamaica) of
University of the District of Columbia have been named the East
Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year, as
voted on by the conference's coaches.
Bor is no stranger to winning major conference awards, having been
named the ECC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year and ECC Men's
Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year already this year.
Bor's dominance continued into the spring outdoor season, as he won
four out of the five individual races he was entered in. In the one
he did not win, he came in second place and set a school record in
the 5,000 meter run in the process. His victories included winning
the 1,500 meter run at the California (Pa.) Early Bird
Invitational, the 800 meter run at the University of Rochester
Alumni Invitational, and both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs at
the East Coast Conference Championship.
Bor's effort in the ECC Championship was also enough to earn the
coaches' vote as the Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Meet.
Like Bor, Jones is now a winner of multiple ECC major awards after
repeating as the ECC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of
the Year. A two-time ECC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, Jones
ranked in the top-seven in the East Region in five different events
during the outdoor season. Jones' best 100 meter dash (12.24) and
200 meter dash (24.80) times, were also the best posted by an ECC
student-athlete this season.
Jones is also a co-recipient of the Most Outstanding Female Athlete
of the ECC Championship Meet, sharing the honor with Molloy's
Stephanie Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.). Jones helped the Firebirds win the
championship by contributing 48 of their 158 total points. She
contributed 28 points individually by winning both the 100 and 200
meter dashes with her aforementioned best times and also finishing
second in the long jump (5.31 meters). Jones was a key member of
both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams that crossed the
finish line first, as well.
Meyer is the other Co-Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the ECC
Championship Meet honoree. She scored in six different events at
the meet, including winning the 100 meter hurdles in a time of
15.68 seconds. Her outstanding day included finishing second in the
triple jump (10.89 meters), third in the long jump (5.41 meters),
fourth in the high jump (1.50 meters), and second in the 4 x 100
meter relay (51.55).
Jerry Wimberley and Nicole Vann from Queens College are the Men's
Outdoor Track & Field Co-Coaches of the Year after their team
earned its second straight ECC Outdoor Championship.
Roberts Wesleyan's Merl McGinnis earns the Women's Outdoor Track
& Field Coach of the Year honor after the Redhawks finished
first at the ECC Championship Meet with 214 points. Despite
finishing with the highest point total, Roberts Wesleyan was
ineligible to win the ECC title due to their status as a NCAA
Provisional Member.
In addition, the ECC also announces the All-Conference finishers
from the championship meet. The top two finishers in each event
were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth
place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference distinction. A
list of all winners can be found below.
