Central Islip, N.Y. - George Erazo (North
Babylon, N.Y.) of St. Thomas Aquinas, Alyssa Hudgins (Highland
Park, N.J.) of Georgian Court, and Kaydian Jones (Kingston,
Jamaica) of University of the District of Columbia have been named
the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the
Year, as voted on by the conference's coaches.
Erazo, a two-time ECC Athlete of the Week, is one of top runners
in the East Region. Erazo is ranked in the top six in the region in
the 400 meter run, the 4 x 100 meter relay, and the 4 x 400 meter
relay. Erazo's standout spring season included coming in first in
the 400 meter run at the CTC Spring Meet and winning four events in
the ECC Championship. His first place finishes included winning the
400 meter run (49.71) and the 400 meter hurdles (59.41), while also
being part of the 4 x 100 (43.46) and 4 x 400 (3:24.83) meter
relays.
Erazo also came in second in the 200 meter run (22.80) and third
in the 100 meter dash (11.82) to bring his individual point total
to 54 to help lead the Spartans to a Co-Championship at the ECC
meet. His outstanding effort earned him a share of Most Outstanding
Athlete of the meet award.
The other half of the Co-Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Meet
duo was Joe Johnson (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) of Molloy. Johnson
competed in eight events for the Lions, earning points in seven of
them. His best showing came in the 110 meter hurdles and the Triple
Jump, coming in first in each. Johnson also finished third in the
high jump, long jump, and pole vault, and also had a fourth place
showing in the javelin throw.
Alyssa Hudgins of Georgian Court is the first of the Women's
Outdoor Track and Field Co-Athletes of the Year. The senior thrower
was a four-time ECC Athlete of the Week and qualified provisionally
for three events (shot put, discus throw, hammer throw at the NCAA
Division II Championships. At the ECC Championship meet, Hudgins
swept all three events by tossing the shot put 13.85 meters, the
discus 40.01 meters, and the hammer 46.32 meters to help the Lions
to their first ever ECC title.
UDC's Jones is the second Co-Athlete of the Year. Jones standout
spring saw her ranked No. 4 in the region in the 200 meter run, No.
6 in the 400 meter hurdle, No. 3 in the 4 x 100 meter relay, and
No. 3 in the long jump. Jones also ranks No. 34 in all of Division
II in the long jump. At the ECC Championship meet, Jones scored in
six different events for the Firebirds, winning four of them. Jones
won individual titles in the long jump ( ), 100 meter dash ( ), 200
meter run ( ), and also helped the 4 x 400 meter relay team to a
first place showing in a time of . Jones' outstanding showing in
the ECC meet also earned her the Most Oustanding Female Athlete of
the Meet award.
Mike Murawski from Georgian Court is the Women's Outdoor Track and
Field Coach of the Year while Greg Welch of Queens College and
Lorne Marcus of St. Thomas Aquinas share the Men's Coach of the
Year honor after their teams were named Co-Champions at the ECC
Championship meet..
In addition, the ECC also announces the first ever All-Conference
finishers from the championship meet. The top two finishers in each
event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and
fourth place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference
