Indianapolis - LIU Post and Bridgeport will be two of the 64 softball teams competing for a Division II National Championship, the NCAA announced on Monday morning. LIU Post is the No. 2 seed in the East Region, while Bridgeport is No. 8.
LIU Post (46-10) is back in the NCAA Championship for the second straight year and for the 17th time in the past 18 seasons. The Pioneers earned an at-large bid after winning the ECC Regular Season Championship and tying a program record with 44 regular season victories.
Bridgeport (33-14) is back in the NCAA Championship for the first time in 30 years and first time as a member of the ECC. The Purple Knights earned the league's automatic bid by winning their first-ever ECC Championship last weekend.
Bridgeport is in the East 1 Regional bracket and will open tournament play against No. 1 Saint Anselm. The Hawks, who were the East Region Champions and National Runner-Up in 2018, earned the top seed after claiming the Northeast 10 Championship.
Joining Bridgeport and Saint Anselm in the East 1 Regional are No. 4 Georgian Court and No. 5 Southern New Hampshire. The Purple Knights have not played any of their fellow regional opponents this season.
Despite being the No. 2 seed, LIU Post will travel to Delaware as No. 3 Wilmington will serve as the East 2 Regional host. The Pioneers first opponent will be No. 7 New Haven. The two schools met earlier this season on St. Patrick's Day, with LIU Post coming away with the doubleheader sweep.
The Pioneers also played March doubleheaders against their other potential opponents, Wilmington and No. 6 Adelphi. They swept Wilmington and split with Adelphi.
Both sides of the East Region bracket will begin play on Thursday, May 9th and will conclude on Saturday, May 11th. The winner of each bracket will advance to play each other on May 16th in a best-of-three East Region Super Regional with a spot in the NCAA Division II World Series on the line.
