Saint Anselm Ends Queens Season in NCAA Tournament

Manchester, N.H. - The Queens College softball team saw its 2015 season come to a close on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Saint Anselm in the NCAA Regional from Manchester, New Hampshire.  Stevianne Ognibene had the lone RBI for the Knights.

After uneventful first innings, QC pushed a run across in the second to take a 1-0 lead.  Samantha Mattsson led off the inning and reached after missing strike three, but running to first on a passed ball.  Kylie Spillett moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt and she took third on the throw.  Two batters later, Ognibene blasted an infield single to third and Mattsson came home.  Queens led 1-0.

Queens nearly added to their lead in the fourth.  Monique Roberge led off with a walk.  Jeannie Callanan ran for her  She moved to second on a Mattsson base hit and both runners advanced to second and third on Spillett sacrifice bunt.  Kayla Morrissey follwed with a ground out to second, but on the play, Callanan tried to score from third and was gunned down at home.  the score remained 1-0.

Saint Anselm took the lead for good by scoring twice in the sixth.  They got three hits in the inning.  The Knights also committed an error.

Queens got two runners on base in the seventh on a single and an error, but failed to score.  The game ended 2-1 for Saint Anselm.

Isabelle Yaroch didn't pitch badly, as she gave up just one earned run and struck out eight in the complete game loss.  She fell to 10-4 on the season.  As a team, the Knights finished with an overall record of 35-16, including a 24-4 conference record.
