ECC Player of the Year, Aly Dzierzynski of LIU Post, has been
named a Division II First Team All-American by both Daktronics and
the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Dzierzynski has been a standout for the Pioneers both at the plate
and behind it this season. Her current batting line consists of a
.439 batting average, 25 homeruns, and 75 RBI. Her homerun total is
good for third in Division II and is an LIU Post single-season
record. Dzierzynski has compiled a .925 slugging percentage that
ranks ninth in the nation, as well. In addition, she has been a
near flawless defender behind the plate, throwing out 50% of
runners attempting to steal (13 for 26) and has made only two
errors in 264 total chances.
With her dual selections to the First Team, Dzierzynski becomes the
first ECC softball student-athlete to earn such an honor since the
2011 season. Her teammate, Nicole Hagenah, was an NFCA First Team
selection that season, while former Molloy outfielder, Jeana Frey,
was a Daktronics First Teamer.
Five other ECC standouts were honored with All-America distinction
between the two teams. Monique Roberge, a utility-pitcher from
Queens, was a Third Team selection by the NFCA. Roberge led the ECC
with 179 strikeouts and posted a 16-7 record with a 2.38 in the
circle this season. She also excelled at the plate, hitting .394
with 13 homeruns and 52 RBI.
LIU Post's Alexis Gonzalez and Dowling's Crystal Tarango both
earned Third Team status on the Daktronics list. Gonzalez has
helped lead the Pioneers to the NCAA Division II World Series with
a potent bat that has produced a .368 batting average to go along
with 18 homeruns and 66 RBI. Tarango was one of the toughest outs
in Division II this season, ranking sixth in the country with a
.494 batting average. The junior outfielder was among the ECC
leaders in nearly every statistical category with 78 hits, 21
doubles, four triples, 15 homeruns, and 55 RBI.
ECC major award honorees, Liz Weber of LIU Post and Kayla Morrissey
of Queens, earned a spot on the Daktronics Honorable Mention list.
Weber, the ECC Pitcher of the Year, has now been an Honorable
Mention selection in two straight seasons after leading the ECC
with 25 wins to go along with a 2.21 ERA on the year. Morrissey,
the ECC Rookie of the Year, was sensational in her debut season for
the Knights, hitting .338 with 12 homeruns and 36 RBI.
