Dzierzynski Named Daktronics East Region Player of the Year; Seven Named to All-Region Squads

Newark, Del. - A pair of juniors headline the 2014 Daktronics All-East Region Softball team as LIU Post’s Aly Dzierzynski and Southern New Hampshire’s Ali Maloof have been named Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, but a vote of the region’s sports information directors.

Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) led the Pioneers to a 41-7 overall record and the East Region’s number one seed in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. As a junior, she was named the 2014 ECC Player of the Year and a First Team All-Conference member after hitting .419 with 11 doubles, a triple, and 18 home runs. She also collected 58 RBI while scoring 35 more during the regular season.

Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) led the Penmen to a 27-13 record and the region’s fifth seed in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. She earned her second consecutive Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year award in 2014 after going 17-7 with a 1.47 earned run average. She struck out 205 batters while tossing a perfect game in addition to three no-hitters on the season.

Joining Dzierzynski and Maloof on the First Team are Caldwell’s Brielle Reighn (1B), Kristen Knorr (3B), and Amber Padilla (SP), Southern New Hampshire’s Lindsey Bolduc (2B), Bloomfield’s Angie Yoshizu (SS), LIU Post’s Alexis Gonzalez (OF), and Liz Weber (SP), Dowling’s Crystal Tarango (OF), Georgian Court’s Dara Schroeder (OF), Queens’ Kayla Morrissey (DP), Mercy’s Julie Gross (UT – Non-Pitcher), and Adelphi’s Kate Andrews(UT – Pitcher).

Earning a spot on the Daktronics All-East Region Second Team are Caldwell’s Alyssa Calderon (C), Caitlin McCready (OF), and Sydney Ponto (SP), Felician’s Ciera Clark (1B), Holy Family’s Danielle McDevitt (2B), New Haven’s Lindsey Couturier (3B), Brandy Dianno (OF), and Victoria Cabral (SP), Georgian Court’s Taylor McDonough (3B), LIU Post’s Nicole Hagenah (SS), Pace’s Shelby Yung (OF), Philadelphia’s Samantha Riabko (OF), Stonehill’s Megan Ruonavaara (DP), Saint Anselm’s Tayla Trask (SP), and Bloomfield’s Kirsten Wilson (UT – Pitcher).

The First Team honorees are automatically eligible for the All-American teams which will be announced on Wednesday May 21.
