Butterworth and Weber Headline Daktronics All-Region Squad

Butterworth and Weber Headline Daktronics All-Region Squad

Brookville, N.Y. – Molloy College senior Megan Butterworth was named the Pitcher of the Year, and LIU Post junior Liz Weber earned Player of the Year accolades as the two players headline the 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II Softball East Region Team.

Butterworth, a  four-time First Team All-Conference selection and three-time Daktronics All-Region honoree, was dominant in the circle for Molloy once again this season.  A six-time recipient of the ECC’s Pitcher of the Week award, Butterworth currently sports a 26-5 record. Butterworth also led the ECC and ranks seventh in the nation with a 1.11 ERA and 11 shutouts, while holding opposing hitters to a .191 batting average over 195.1 innings pitched.  In addition, her ERA, shutout, strikeout (244), and strikeouts per seven innings (8.7) totals all rank in the top-15 in Division II, with her shutout total the highest ranked at No. 6.

Weber put together a standout year both at the plate and in the circle for the Pioneers. Offensively, Weber totaled 69 hits, posting a .401 average. She also posted tremendous power numbers, hitting 12 doubles and 10 homeruns from the leadoff spot. Her pitching numbers were as good, if not better, than her stats at the plate. In 36 appearances (33 starts), Weber once again tied for a top mark in the ECC, this time with 24 wins. In 201.1 innings pitched, opposing hitters managed just a .237 batting average against and struck out 216 times. Weber also ranked third in the ECC with a 2.02 earned run average.

Joining Butterworth and Weber on the All-Region first team are four Caldwell players, Alyssa Calderon, Dia Cascone, Brielle Reighn, and Kourtney Wilson; a pair of Adelphi players, Victoria Wink and Emily Dorko; the NE-10 Player of the Year, New Haven’s Christina Gelardi; Kimberly Ragazzo of Dominican; LIU Post’s Alexis Gonzalez; Abby Jamieson of UMass-Lowell; AIC’s Stephanie Belanger; and the CACC Pitcher of the Year Katie Warrington from Wilmington.

Second team selections are led by two student-athletes from Molloy, Jeana Frey and Kelley Jansen; two from LIU Post, Aly Dzierzynski and Paige Swantek, two from Dominican, Delaney Childers and Julie Plante, and two from Dowling, Stephanie Tarango and Erica Fischetti.  Joining them are Adelphi’s Katie Andrews; Tawny Palmieri of Merrimack; Wilmington’s Brook Ash; Ali Maloof of Southern New Hampshire; and New Haven’s Micah Stonesifer.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the two Daktronics All-Region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later in the month.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
