Championship, the NCAA announced this morning. Molloy, the East
Coast Conference regular and postseason champion, is the No. 2 seed
in the East Region bracket, while C.W. Post grabbed the No. 3
seed.
Molloy earns their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament
after earning the conference’s automatic bid with their
second straight ECC Softball Championship victory. The Lions were a
perfect 3-0 in the tournament to boost their record to 42-10 on the
season. Their first round opponent will be former ECC foe, Adelphi.
The Panthers sit in the No. 7 spot after posting a 34-18-1 record
in the regular season.
C.W. Post is in the field of 64 for the eleventh straight year
after wrapping up the regular season with a 37-20 record. The
Pioneers, who have made the NCAA Division II Softball World Series
in three out of the last five years, will begin their East Region
title defense against No. 6 seed and CACC champion, Dominican. The
Pioneers and Chargers split a doubleheader on March 15 on the
campus of C.W. Post.
The East Region bracket is broken into two, four-team
double-elimination sub-regionals. C.W. Post will serve as the
host for the East Region 2 site, with the four previously mentioned
teams. Play begins on Friday, May 4 with the C.W. Post –
Dominican game at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Molloy – Adelphi
game at 3:30 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket in the East Region 1 site are host
and No. 1 seed, Southern Connecticut St., No. 4 Caldwell, No. 5
UMass Lowell, and No. 8 Assumption. The winners of the two
sub-regionals will square off in the NCAA East Region Super
Regional on May 11-12 with a spot in the NCAA Division II World
Series on the line.
