Campagna, Stavola Highlight 2011 Daktronics Softball East All-Region Teams

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Carla Campagna (Floral Park, N.Y.) of Molloy College and junior Jessie Stavola (Montauk, N.Y.) of Dowling College headline this year’s 2011 Daktronics East Softball All-Region Team, as voted on by the region’s sports information directors.  Campagna was voted both Player of the Year and Stavola received Pitcher of the Year honors.  

Campagna, who was also named the East Coast Conference Player of the Year, batted .389 at the plate with a .650 slugging percentage.  She recorded 70 hits, including 14 doubles and 11 home runs, for a league-best 61 RBI.  She helped lead the Lions to their second straight NCAA tournament appearance.

Stavola was also recognized as the ECC Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season.  She was 18-4 in the circle and sported a 1.10 earned run average.  In 140 innings pitched, Stavola let up just 22 earned runs on 66 hits and 30 walks while striking out 309 batters.  Stavola leads Division II in strikeouts per seven innings.

Joining Campagna and Stavola on the First Team was Pitcher Katie Warrington (Wilmington), Pitcher Felicia Mendoza (Dowling), Outfield Jeana Frey (Molloy), Outfield Chelsea Harold (New Haven), Outfield Melissa DePalma (Georgian Court), Utility Megan Butterworth (Molloy), First Base Kristin Whitley (Southern Connecticut), Second Base Kendall Bright (C.W. Post), Third Base Nicole Hagenah (C.W. Post), Shortstop Danielle McDevitt (Holy Family), Catcher Emily Slack (Dowling) and Designated Player Stephanie Tarango (Dowling).
 
The Second Team was comprised of Pitcher Kelly Jansen (Molloy), Pitcher Christina Berardi (C.W. Post), Pitcher Delaney Childers (Dominican), Outfield Kristina Patrocinio (Concordia (N.Y.),  Outfield Tanya Robidoux (Assumption), Ashton Corley (Bloomfield), Utility Kira Wager (Bloomfield), First Base Carla Campagna (Molloy), Second Base Rachel Ruch (Georgian Court), Third Base Tawny Palmieri (Merrimack), Shortstop Christina Gelardi (New Haven), Catcher Lauren Bell (Pace) and Designated Player Brooke Hull (Georgian Court).

All First Team selections will appear on the Daktronics Softball All-America ballot, which will be available for voting May 19.
