Central Islip, NY- Senior short stop Christie Softy (C.W. Post) has been tabbed the 2010 Softball Player of the Year, as selected by the league’s coaches. Pitcher of the Year nods has been awarded to Jessie Stavola (Dowling College) and third baseman Haley Calderwood (Molloy College) has been tabbed the 2010 Rookie of the Year.
Softy, a three-time Player of the Week selection, broke C.W. Post’s career records in homeruns, RBI, doubles, and at-bats. In 2010, she compiled a .383 batting average to rank sixth in the ECC and led the conference in slugging percentage (.766), homeruns (17) and runs batted in (67). In her four year career as a Pioneer, Softy has been named an All-American, a three-time All-Region selection as well as a four-time All-Conference First Teamer.
In her first year donning the Blue and Gold, Stavola has made quite an impression boasting a 16-3 record. The sophomore currently leads the ECC in nine different categories. She tops the conference charts in ERA (1.15), opposing batting average (.106), strikeouts (265), batters struck out looking (69), hits allowed (48), runs allowed (25) and saves (3). Stavola’s averages of 13.8 strikeouts per game and 2.5 hits per seven innings leads nation as well.
A three-time Rookie of the Week selection, Calderwood is second in the ECC with a .411 batting average. She ranks third in the conference with 67 hits, sixth with 51 RBI and seventh with 10 homeruns. She also cracks the top-ten chart with a .656 slugging percentage and a .464 on-base percentage.
For the second straight year, Susan Cassidy-Lyke of Molloy College has been selected Coach of the Year by her peers. This season, Cassidy-Lyke guided the Lions to a 36-16 overall record and with a 19-9 mark in conference play to claim the third seed in the ECC Tournament. The Lions are currently ranked fifth in the East Region as they head into post-season play.
