SMITHFIELD,RI - Dowling College outfielder Taras Wallace and
Georgian Court's Samantha Sasko headline this year's 2008
Daktronics Softball Northeast All-Region team released this
afternoon following a vote by the region's Sports Information
Directors. Wallace, the East Coast Conference Co-Player
of the Year, led the ECC in six offensive categories including
batting average (.470), on-base percentage (.620), slugging
percentage (.750), doubles (26), total bases (99) and walks with
53. Sasko, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher
of the Year, posted a 26-6 overall record with 260 strikeouts and
boasted a 1.49 earned run average in 191.2 innings pitched.
C.W. Post, the No. 1 team in the region and host of this week's NCAA regional, placed four players on the first and second team while Adelphi and Caldwell College, both participants in the NCAA tournament, each placed three players on the all-region team.
Joining Sasko and Wallace on the All-Region first team were: UT, Megan Caporossi (Southern Connecticut), DP Brianne Moore (Bloomfield), P Julie Schaper (Adelphi), P Katie Turner (Wilmington), C Heather Walker (Georgian Court), 1B Jachael Guanci (U Mass Lowell), 2B Gina Capardi (Caldwell), 3B Diana DiPiano (Adelphi), SS Christie Softy (C.W. Post), OF Brilynn Fields (NYIT) and OF Christina Pane (Pace).
The 2008 Daktronics Northeast All-Region Second Team includes: UT Breanne Gleason (New Haven), DP Annie Forte (Caldwell), P Janine Enos (Bryant), P Samantha Yodowitz (C.W. Post), P Tracey Chesebrough (Saint Rose), C Courtney Young (Stonehill), 1B Holly Eringis (C.W. Post), 2B Michelle Walsh (Molloy), 3B Nicole Bodrog (Caldwell), SS Vickie Berardi (Bloomfield), OF Dely Francisco (Adelphi), OF Melissa Medina (C.W. Post) and OF Laurie Tanguay (U Mass Lowell).
Members of the First Team Northeast All-Region team will appear on the national All-America ballot. All-America ballots will be distributed May 9 with announcement of the All-America team expected for May 16.
