Mercy Earns Second Straight NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Berth

Indianapolis - Mercy College's men's soccer team will compete in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship for the second consecutive season and fourth time in program history, it was announced on Monday evening.

The Mavericks (14-3-3 )earned their way into the tournament by winning the East Coast Conference Championship and the league's automatic berth. In the first year of a new regional format that combines the old Atlantic and East Regions, Mercy will be the No. 6 seed in the Super Region 1 bracket.

Mercy will travel to take on No. 3 Charleston (17-2-1) in a second round contest on Saturday, November 23. Both schools earned a first round bye after finishing among the region's top-six seeds.

Charleston, the Mountain East Conference Champion, is looking to win their second National Championship in three seasons after finishing atop Division II in 2017.

This is just the second meeting all-time between the two schools. The previous encounter came in 1996 and ended in a 1-1 tie.

The winner of the Mercy vs. Charleston matchup will advance to take on one of three potential opponents. No. 2 Gannon will take on either No. 7 West Chester or No. 10 Assumption in the second round.

Other teams that will compete in the Super Region 1 bracket include No. 1 Adelphi, No. 4 Franklin Pierce, No. 5 Wilmington, No. 8 Millersville, and No. 9 Post.
