ECC Announces Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Selections

West Babylon, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference announced its Men's Lacrosse All-Conference awards on Friday afternoon. Mercy’s trio of Brady Kearnan (Courtice, Ontario), Justin Gerdvil (Northport, N.Y.), and Tommy Umano (Seaford, N.Y.) all repeated as top award winners. Kearnan was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Gerdvil took home the Defensive honor, and Umano was selected as Goalkeeper of the Year. Rounding out the top awards is Molloy’s Thomas Kofod (Seaford, N.Y.) as the Rookie of the Year.

Kearnan was a force on offense for the Mavericks once again in 2023. Despite missing three midseason games, Kearnan ranked third in the ECC with 74 points and 33 assists. The four-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week also ranked fifth in the league with 41 goals on the year. With his point total coming in just 12 games, Kearnan led all of Division II with 6.17 points per game and was fifth in the nation with 2.75 assists per game.

On the other side of the field, Gerdvil and Umano helped the Mavericks field one of the stingiest defenses in the nation. Gerdvil caused 35 turnovers on the year, good for first in the ECC and eighth in all of Division II with a mark of 2.33 per game. In addition, Gerdvil ranked fifth in the conference with 73 ground balls

Umano was outstanding in front of the cage for Mercy. He led the ECC with a 9.74 goals against average and ranked second with a 55.6 save percentage on 145 saves.

Kofod, a three-time ECC weekly award honoree, was a defensive stalwart for the Lions. He tied Gerdvil with 35 caused turnovers to pace the conference, and ranked in the top five with 75 ground balls.

In his first year at the helm, Mercy head coach Ryan MacSpadyen, was selected as the Coach of the Year by his peers. MacSpadyen led the Mavericks to a perfect 6-0 record in ECC play, giving Mercy it’s fourth straight ECC regular season title.
