BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 1, 2009) - Two
organziations released their basketball All-America honorees this
afternoon, and Jonathan Schmidt (Centereach, N.Y.)
recieved kudos from both organizations. Basketball Times
named the senior a First Team All-American, while Division II
Bulletin placed him on the Third Team. In addition, Tim
Cluess was named Co-Coach of the Year by Basketball Times, joining
Findlay coach Ron Niekamp, who also recieved the honor.
Schmidt capped of a phenomenal career for the Pioneers with a
senior season that saw him start all 31 games, averaging 19.0
points per game and 5.96 assists per game, both tops of the
team. The East Coast Conference Player of the Year helped lead
the Pioneers to an undefeated season, an ECC Regular season and
Championship Title, and the team's first NCAA East Region
Championship, earning the Pioneers an appearance in the Elite
Eight.
The senior guard ended his career with 1,980 career points, setting
a new school record for career points scored. Schmidt also
broke several other career records including three pointers made
and free throws made. A four-year starter and two-time ECC
Player of the Year, Schmidt also earned Daktronics All-Region First
Team honors.
