Staten Island, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan women and Georgian Court men were victorious at the ECC Indoor Track & Field Championship on Friday evening. The Roberts women win their third straight conference title, while the Georgian Court men wins an ECC title for the first time in program history.
In the men's championship, the Lions rode dominance in the field events to a championship. Georgian Court had the winner in the pole vault (Evan Boyce - 4.25m), triple jump (DaShawn Lamar-Baldwin - 13.35m), shot put (Joe Kaas - 15.45m), and weight throw (Leon White - 16.21m). The Lions also dominated the point totals in the high jump and weight throw by having four of the six athletes to earn points in the event. They also helped their cause with three athletes finishing in the point total in the 60m hurdles and shot put events.
On the women's side, Roberts Wesleyan squeaked by Georgian Court by a final tally of 110-103. Chelsea Hayward played a huge part in the Redhawks' victory by crossing the finish line first in the 60m, 200m, and 400m dash to earn 30 points by herself. She was also part of the 4 x 400m relay team that finished second.
It was also a record shattering day for the second straight year since the championship moved to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island. There were 17 meet records were tied or broken on the evening. Records are denoted with a # in the list of event winners below.
