Creary and Erazo Named ECC Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year

Central Islip, N.Y. – Shauna Kay-Creary of University of the District of Columbia and George Erazo of St. Thomas Aquinas have been named the first ever ECC Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year, as voted on by the conference's coaches.

Erazo, a three-time ECC Athlete of the Week, was one of the top runners in the East Region and all of Division II in the 400 meters this year. Erazo ranked No. 26 in Division II and second in the East Region with a 400 meter run time of 48.37 seconds. He also won the conference championship in the 400 as well as the 4 x 400 meter and 4 x 200 meter relays. Erazo, who also placed second in the conference championship meet in the 200 meter dash, had Top-Five finishes at the Gotham Cup, NYU Team Challenge, Army Cromwell Cup, and the Molloy College Invitational.

Creary, a two-time ECC Athlete of the Week, was a versatile performer, finishing in the top of the East Region in numerous events. She posted the top high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters, and also finished in the Top-Six in triple jump (11.59 m), long jump (5.77 m), and 60 meter dash (7.85 seconds). Creary's shining moment came in the ECC Championship meet, as she helped the Firebirds be crowned the first ever ECC Women's Indoor Track and Field Champions. Creary scored 42 points by herself over the course of five events, winning the high jump and long jump, coming in second in the triple jump and 200 meter dash, and third in the 60 meter dash. Her efforts earned the Most Outstanding Athlete of the ECC Women's Championship meet.

The Men's Most Outstanding Athlete of the ECC Championship meet went to Mike Abelard of St. Thomas Aquinas. Abelard earned the honor after taking home first place in both the 60 and 200 meter dashes and was also a part of the winning 4 x 200 meter relay squad.

Alton McKenzie from University of the District of Columbia, and Alan Kilfoyle of Molloy College, also earned the ECC Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year honors after leading their teams to the titles at the championship meet.

In addition, the ECC also announces the first ever All-Conference finishers from the championship meet. The top two finishers in each event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference distinction.
