West Babylon, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference Baseball All-Conference awards were announced on Wednesday afternoon. Garrett Scavelli (Frankin Square, N.Y.) of Molloy was named the league’s Player of the Year, while Aaron Dona (Gloversville, N.Y.) of St. Thomas Aquinas was picked as the Pitcher of the Year. Queens’ Jorsixt Jimenez (Queens, N.Y.) was also honored as the conference’s Rookie of the Year.
Scavelli, now a two-time All-Conference honoree, earns the Player of the Year award after ranking among the ECC leaders in nearly every offensive category. Heading into postseason play Scavelli leads the conference with 69 hits, 54 runs scored, and 110 total bases. He also ranks in the top five in the ECC with a .383 batting average, 18 doubles, four triples, 41 runs batted in, 13 stolen bases, and a .611 slugging percentage.
Dona earns the Pitcher of the Year honor after compiling a 6-3 record to go along with a 3.57 earned run average over 70.2 innings. His win total and ERA were ranked in the top five in the conference. He was even better in ECC play, going 4-1 with a 2.72 ERA against conference opponents. Dona was among the top strikeout pitchers in all of Division II, as well. He posted six different starts with double-digit K’s to lead the ECC with 104 strikeouts and 13.25 strikeouts per nine innings. Both numbers rank in the top 10 in the country with his strikeout total ranking eighth and his strikeout per nine inning mark good for fifth. Additionally, Dona topped the conference with four complete games and two shutouts on the season.
Jimenez becomes the second straight Knight to earn ECC Rookie of the Year after teammate Marc Cisco did so a season ago. Like Scavelli, the four-time ECC Rookie of the Week was one of the most productive hitters in the conference. He ranked in the top five in the ECC with a .382 batting average, .476 on-base percentage, 60 hits, 13 doubles, six home runs, 93 total bases, and 49 RBI.
Wrapping up the top honors is Molloy’s Joe Fucarino, who has been selected as the ECC Coach of the Year by his peers for the sixth time in his career and for the third straight season. Fucarino earns the award after leading the Lions to a 33-15 record and the ECC Regular Season Championship after compiling a mark of 19-5 during league play.
