Molloy Repeats as ECC Baseball Champions After a Sweep of Queens

Uniondale, N.Y. - The Molloy baseball team defeated the Queens College Knights, 6-5 and 12-10, Saturday to win its second consecutive East Coast Conference title. The Lions improved to 36-12. Graduate student Peter Theodorellis was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
 
Game One: Molloy 6, Queens 5

  • Queens began the game with a three-run first inning, following an RBI single, and a two-run triple to push the Knights ahead, 3-0.
  • The Lions answered back in the bottom of the first, sophomore Garett Scavelli belted a three-run home run to knot the contest at three.
  • After a scoreless second inning, Queens third basemen Lou Antos hit a solo home run to push the Knights ahead, 4-3.
  • Molloy responded in the fourth inning, Theodorellis singled home sophomore Chris Einemann to bring the game all square, 4-4.
  • The Knights wasted no time retaking the lead in the fifth when Matt Filip singled to bring in the go-ahead run. Queens led, 5-4, after five innings of action.
  • The game remained scoreless until the eighth inning, senior Patrick Hoffman knotted the contest at five with an RBI single.
  • Two batters later, sophomore Anthony Manisero came off the bench and delivered a pinch-hit single that scored senior Chris Peralta. Molloy led, 6-5, going into the ninth.
  • Queens was able to get a man to second in the ninth but was unable to score as Molloy went on to secure the, 6-5, victory and force a winner take all game two for the ECC Championship.

 
Game Two: Molloy 12, Queens 10

  • Redshirt senior Thomas Brady hit an RBI double, and junior David Franchi scored Brady on a sac fly to make it 2-0 in the first.
  • After Queens scored three runs in the bottom of the third, Theodorellis grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored Einemann and knotted the score, 3-3.
  • The Knights plated three runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.
  • Molloy used a four-run fifth to go up 7-6. Franchi, Hoffman, and Theodorellis hit RBI singles, and Franchi came home on an error.
  • Queens regained the lead, 10-7, with four runs in the fifth.
  • Scavelli blasted a solo home run to left to cut the advantage to 10-8.
  • The maroon and white scored three runs in the seventh to take an 11-10 lead. Theodorellis hit an RBI single, and later scored on an error, and Overton drilled an RBI double.
  • Scavelli added an RBI double in the ninth.
  • Theodorellis threw four shutout innings and struck out seven to pick up his second win of the second.
