Three Spartans Named All-Americans

Three Spartans Named All-Americans

St. Thomas Aquinas baseball standouts Giovanni Dingcong, Frankie Moscatiello, and Joseph Pena have been named All-Americans for their outstanding seasons.

Moscatiello is the only consensus All-American of the three, earning a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings, Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (DIICCA), and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) lists. Moscatiello was a Third Team selection by both the ABCA and DIICCA and earned Honorable Mention status from the NCBWA.

Moscatiello, who was the ECC Pitcher of the Year, has been dominant on the mound all season for the Spartans. Prior to his appearance in the Division II World Series, Moscatiello held a 9-1 record to go along with a 1.59 earned run average. His ERA mark ranked 11th in all of Division II. Moscatiello also struck out 86 hitters over 79.1 innings pitched.

Pena joined Moscatiello on the ABCA Third Team and also earned an Honorable Mention nod from the NCBWA. Going into the College World Series, Pena led the ECC with a .391 batting average, 81 hits, 60 runs scored, 49 walks, and a .526 on-base percentage that ranked sixth in the country. He also added 11 doubles, four triples, six homeruns, and 38 runs batted in on the season.

Dingcong, who was one of the top power hitters in the country, was named to the NCBWA Honorable Mention list. He led the ECC and  ranked 12th in the country with 18 homeruns on the year (and added number 19 in the Spartans' World Series opener). He also finished with a .301 batting average, 47 RBI, and 24 stolen bases.
