ECC Pitcher of the Year, Matt Kostalos of St. Thomas Aquinas College, has been named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings East Region Pitcher of the Year. In addition, seven ECC baseball standouts have earned a spot on the DIICCA and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams.
Kostalos was nearly unhittable in 2016, compiling an 8-0 record with a 1.46 earned run average over 98.2 innings pitched, all of which led the conference. He also paced the league with 108 strikeouts and allowed opposing hitters a stingy .198 batting average against. In addition the East Region Pitcher of the Year honor, Kostalos was named to both All-Region First Teams.
Like Kostalos, Angelo Navetta of Molloy College and Kostalos of St. Thomas Aquinas College. Navetta was the ECC Player of the Year after leading the conference with a .372 batting average, 74 hits, and 98 total bases. Navetta also added 11 doubles, two triples, three homeruns, and 34 runs batted in.
Joining Navetta and Kostalos as DIICCA honorees are Michael Rizzitello of Dowling, Casey McCone of Bridgeport, Ronald Bauer of Molloy, George Navadel of St. Thomas Aquinas, and Jorge Ruiz of Queens. Rizzitello, McCone, and Bauer were selected to the Second Team of both lists, while Navadel and Ruiz earned spots on the DIICCA Second Team.
