Greensboro, N.C. - John Ascenzia, a senior for the University of Bridgeport, has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division II Gold Glove Team.
Ascenzia, a First Team All-Conference selection in 2015, was outstanding at the shortstop position for the Purple Knights. In 189 total chances on the year, he made only three errors for a .984 fielding percentage. He also helped Bridgeport turn 24 double plays on the year.
Ascenzia becomes the second shortstop from the ECC to earn the national Gold Glove honor, joining Molloy's Kris Kelly, who earned the award in 2013.
