Bridgeport, Conn. - Twelve student-athletes from the East Coast Conference were named All-Region selections by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Tuesday afternoon. ECC Pitcher of the Year, Jake DeCarli from LIU Post, was the lone First Team selection.
DeCarli was dominant on the mound for the Pioneers this season, finishing with a 6-1 record and a 0.76 earned run average. In 71.0 innings pitched on the year, he allowed only 35 hits for a miniscule .148 batting average against, and also struck out 60 hitters. In addition, his ERA currently ranks third in all of Division II.
Five ECC standouts including ECC Player of the Year, Stanley Susana, and ECC Rookie of the Year, Giovanni Dingcong of St. Thomas Aquinas, earned spots on the Second Team. Joseph Pena is the third student-athlete from ECC Champion, St. Thomas Aquinas, to make the list, while Bridgeport's Tim Bickford and PJ Martino round out the ECC representation on the Second Team.
Six earned a spot on the Honorable Mention list, as well. They are David Groeneveld (LIU Post), John Ascenzia (Bridgeport), John Cruz (Dowling), RJ Going (Dowling), Rob Anderson (Bridgeport), and Shea Spitzbarth (Molloy).
