Dowling College's Tyler Badamo has been named the American
Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II East Region Pitcher
of the Year. Badamo and five other ECC student-athletes also earned
a spot on the ABCA All-East Region Teams.
Badamo is now the consensus East Region Pitcher of the Year after
earning the award from the ABCA, Daktronics, and NCBWA
publications. The senior right-hander wrapped up his career with a
9-3 record over 15 appearances and 13 starts. In 108.1 innings
pitched, Badamo tallied a 0.83 earned run average, 129 strikeouts,
five complete games, two shutouts, and allowed only 75 hits, five
of which went for extra-bases. His ERA and strikeout totals were
also good for second in all of Division II.
Joining Badamo on the First Team is St. Thomas Aquinas outfielder,
Rich Baerga. Baerga leads the ECC with a .369 batting average and
83 hits. The junior has also amassed 10 doubles, seven triples, 17
stolen bases and 36 RBI on the season.
ECC players on the Second Team include Andrew Abreu (Sr., 2B,
Dowling), JC Brandmaier (Sr., IF, Dowling), John Cruz (Jr., OF,
Dowling), and Derek Hirsch (Jr., DH, St. Thomas Aquinas).
The ABCA also released its East Region Gold Glove Team. The lone
ECC representative was Bridgeport's Jesse Solar, a Second Team
selection. Solar was flawless in the outfield for the Purple
Knights this season, totaling 95 total chances without an
error.
